Sulfuric acid is a versatile industrial raw material. Commercially supplied sulfuric acid is normally 98% concentrated sulfuric acid, which generally requires dilution to different concentrations to satisfy various process demands.
Technical Description
The sulfuric acid dilution and cooling system is composed of graphite jet mixer, graphite cooler, connecting pipelines, measuring instruments and control cabinet. It is capable of diluting 98% concentrated sulfuric acid to any target concentration, with the outlet temperature of dilute sulfuric acid kept below 45°C. A single unit can process up to 20 cubic meters per hour of 98% concentrated sulfuric acid.
All components of the system can be mounted on a unified base frame and delivered to the job site as a complete skid package. This greatly shortens the installation, inspection and commissioning lead time for equipment, piping and instruments, accelerating the overall construction schedule of the project.
Process Overview
Concentrated sulfuric acid and deionized dilution water fed into the graphite dilution cooling system undergo intense mixing inside the mixer, releasing a large amount of dissolution heat. The diluted acid is then quickly transported to the downstream graphite cooler.
Within the cooler, the diluted sulfuric acid and circulating cooling water perform countercurrent heat exchange through independent flow channels inside graphite heat exchange blocks. The dissolution heat released from sulfuric acid is absorbed by the circulating cooling water, so the temperature of dilute sulfuric acid at the system outlet can be stably maintained within the required range.
Upon special customer requirements, the shell side of the graphite cooler can receive anti-corrosion modification to accommodate other corrosive cooling media. The system can also achieve thermal integration with external facilities to boost energy efficiency.
